Curious Alien Studio, located in Rochester, NY,
is the studio of Susan Begy, an interdisciplinary artist whose sculptures, drawings and installations co-exist with her contemporary tattoo work. The studio offers private, appointment-only tattoos of Begy's designs.
Begy's work has been exhibited in contemporary art centers, museums, and galleries in the U.S. and Europe. She has completed intensive tattoo training, maintains high health and safety standards, and is licensed in NYC.

Getting a Tattoo
You can select a design from my flash pages or work with me to create a custom tattoo design that weaves your imagery with your story and idea. Custom work is kind of magical, actually.
Style
Quirky and elegant would be the best way to describe my style. Some favorite topics are science fiction, nonsense, illustrations from children’s books, biological and botanical studies. I specialize in line work with shading, using black & gray with an occasional burst of color.
Entangled Tattoos
I'm playing around with something I call 'entangled tattoos'. People share a small part of their tattoo with another person's tattoo. I started by entangling two tattoos I did on myself of images from a scene in Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins, that of a feather and an anatomical heart. I tattooed another person and connected her tattoo to my tattoo. Then I tattooed another person connecting her tattoo to the previous tattoo. And on it goes.
There are lots of ways to connect imagery as well as people--within a group of friends, with strangers, randomly, with people in other cities or countries... Let me know if you'd like to plug in.
Skill Check
I completed formal tattoo training and bring significant experience in drawing, painting, sculpting and installation to my tattoo work. As an interdisciplinary artist, I wholeheartedly embrace working with various materials and endeavor to create high quality work no matter the medium.

To schedule an appointment for an existing tattoo design:

1) Describe your tattoo idea as specifically as possible. Indicate whether you want just black and grey or if you want a pop of color. Send reference images or links to reference images.
2) Indicate body placement (e.g. left arm above elbow, right shoulder going down the back, wrap around left calf...)
3) Give the approximate size in inches (height x width). This aids the design process, it doesn't have to be exact.
4) Include your story!!! Every tattoo has a special meaning or story and I want to hear it so I can blend it with the imagery.
5) Provide some potential scheduling dates and times.
6) Please inform me if you want to keep within a certain budget. There is a $300 minimum.
To schedule a custom tattoo:
A $150 non-refundable deposit is required for custom designs in order to begin the design process. This amount goes toward the total cost of your tattoo.
